International audienceThis study seeks to determine how the use of nomadic digital tools introduced by students in French-language courses can impact the shape of a well-defined academic form, such as a given organizational form of teaching/learning in the university context. A group interview survey of students and teachers was conducted at a French learning centre geared toward international students in order to collect the involved actors’ discourse and undertake a critical analysis, with special focus on the expression of power relations. Our study attests that an academic form endures through a dialectic of docility and control, and is located in an in-between space where the rules governing the use of connected objects are rarely clearly established. The digital transition of international students
International audienceAs more and more students own mobile digital tools, the study of their use for formal and informal language learning becomes pressing to examine what part they play in knowledge construction and the development of digital literacies that are deemed important for students’ academic success (Lankshear & Knobel, 2011). As Cope and Kalantzis (2009) underline, along with new communication practices, new literacies are emerging and shaping new social practices – e.g., new forms of identities and approaches to learning. In spite of the steady increase in migration at the international level (OECD, 2013), there are still few studies concerning the use of mobile digital tools by international students who come to study in a foreign university (Collin, Saffari & Kamta, 2015). Yet, the international attractiveness of universities also depend on the quality of the pedagogical, social and technical support international students receive. The presentation will concentrate on the results of a project (TRANSNUMED) which has focused on international students’ use of digital tools and has endeavored to analyze the role these tools play in the transition they undergo, from a linguistic and cultural point of view, from one academic tradition to another, and from one social network to a new one. Evidence of this transition has been collected thanks to different methods (an application that 18 participants used during a month on their smartphone, a questionnaire and interviews). Results reveal different levels of digital acculturation and indicate potential directions to accompany international students in their linguistic and academic transition

Circulating microRNAs improve bacterial infection diagnosis and overall survival prediction in acute decompensation of liver cirrhosis
Summary: Bacterial infections are the most frequent precipitating event in patients with acute decompensation of cirrhosis (AD) and are associated with high mortality. Early diagnosis is challenging due to cirrhosis-related systemic inflammation. Here we investigated the potential of circulating microRNAs to diagnose bacterial infections and predict survival in cirrhotic patients with AD. High throughput profiling of circulating microRNAs was performed using the Nanostring technology in 57 AD patients and 24 patients with compensated cirrhosis (CC). Circulating miRs profiling showed that: (a) miRs differentially detected in AD vs. CC were mostly down-regulated; (b) a composite score including absolute neutrophil count, C reactive protein and miR-362-3p could diagnose bacterial infection with an excellent performance (AUC of 0.825 [95% CI = 0.671–0.980; p < 0.001]); (c) a composite score including miR-382-5p, miR-592 and MELD-Na improved 6-month survival prediction. Circulating miRs are strongly dysregulated in patients with AD and may help to improve bacterial infection diagnosis and survival prediction
